Biblical sources of Christian social ethics

Here are the reading assignments for Jan. 26 – Feb. 4. Please read the excerpt from David Ford’s intro to Christian theology first (“Chapter 8: Through the Past to the Present: Texts and History,” which was distributed in class on Jan. 21), and then read all the biblical passages, with what Ford says in mind. Please bring a printout of the passages, or a device on which you can read an electronic version of them, to class.

Feb. 4: Daniel G. Groody, Globalization, Spirituality, and Justice, pp. 31-37 and 48-54 (handout, also here for CORE 264A and here for CORE 264B); Gerald Graff & Cathy Birkenstein, They Say / I Say, Part I (bookstore). These readings will be the basis for your first short writing assignment.
